in connecticut we turn flow to ktvu's amber lee with new information about the gunman and the puzzle investigators are piecing together tonight. >> reporter: the picture that's emerging is about a troubled young man who didn't cause much attention to himself throughout most of his life. sudden listen causing headlines as the perpetrator of the worse shooting in this country. tonight there's an eerieness at sandy hook elementary as the community and police try to find answers. the young man was dressed in black, he was armed with at least two handguns and without saying a word opened fire. >> an investigation like this is like a puzzle. we want to form a puzzle together and form a complete pig so everyone without any doubt whatsoever can truly understand what occurred. >> reporter: a s.w.a.t. team went to the newtown home where adam lived with his mother nancy. it appears he killed her there before taking her car to the school. >> you can't understand what happened, that he snapped, what have you and they took such innocent lives. >> reporter: police are now reporting that they recov

starting tomorrow at the oakland civic -- convention center. paul chambers, ktvu channel 2 news. >> we were the first to bring you the story of a string of robberies at the carquinez bridge toll plaza. now three men are under arrest. ktvu's ken pritchett is live with the slow steady case that came together for investigators. ken? >> reporter: the chp says it happened this way, a car pulls up, it would stop, someone would get out and threaten the toll both worker. that happened 10 times at this toll lawser in the last -- plaza in the last year. at the carquinez bridge toll plaza with armed robbers hit the location repeatedly. >> they were hard to identify. >> reporter: he says three men have now been identified and arrested. robert larry white, christopher lee miller, david joseph morales. the chp believes they are responsible for 3-10 robberies here at the carquinez bridge toll plaza. the investigation was difficult because they used stolen cars. investigators had help from the police department in finding suspects through the use of record checks on traffic stops. and a series of car burgl

and homicide in san francisco where the victims were bound and gagged. ktvu's david stevenson was in court today and tells us for the first time the district attorney talked about a possible motive. >> cameras were not allowed in this san francisco courtroom as prosecutorred announced a sixth suspect in a brutal beating and homicide in which two victims were left beaten and gagged. katherine uong described as a felon nicknamed killer is the first to be charged with the killing. an 18-year-old woman was found with reed also severely beaten she is now recovering. george gascon today signaled a motive. >> it appears there may be some relationship to the fraudulent use of credit cards. >> reporter: gascon says investigators found blank credit cards, label makers and a list of numbers and security codes in this house. it's the same house police say the suspects went to to remove bloody carpet from an suv. a supporters of one of the suspects told the district attorney, i hope you die, i don't like you. >> we're dealing with people that are not hesitant to kill someone. >> reporter: katherine uon

francisco allie rasmus ktvu channel 2 news. >>> we will turn now to other news. new this morning i want to tell you about a rescue along the side of a by area freeway that happened after a couple crashed their car. that car veered off interstate 880 around 1:30 this morning. it got tangled up in bushes and trees along the fence line. investigators still don't know what went wrong. >> witness described the vehicle suddenly looking as if exiting the freeway. >> police say the car hit the fence at full freeway speed. we don't know the extent of the injuries but authorities say the woman inside that car was able to talk to police. however, the man who was driving suffered a head injury and was not able to communicate with his rescuers. >>> it was a wet and soggy saturday. more rain is on the way for the next few days. the storm also brought cold temperatures to many parts of the bay. and holiday shoppers had to pull out their umbrellas, hats, and coats. san jose workers at an emergency shelter say dozens of people filled their beds because of the cold weather. the rain also caused delays up
